Boxing is not what it used to be?
Am I the only one who thinks that boxing is not as exciting as it used to be? Maybe its because the heavyweight division is so dull, but I gotta say that the majority of fights I have seen in the last 10 years have been a bit . . . boring. You get the rare exception, but fights nowadays do not generally live up to their hype.

Maybe also its because there are too many Divisions of each 'Weights' now...there SHOULD only be ONE overall Heavyweight Champion etc etc !!

Fair point, ajaxay. It can get a bit confusing at times with three of four different belts at a particular weight but I don;t know if this makes the division boring.

We were probably spoiled for a little while with Tyson who was very watchable and highly marketable for TV companies. I still think there are a lot of exciting match ups these days in other weight divisions. But I agree the heavyweight division is poor and has been for some time now. It seems like the state of boxing is judged by the state of the heavyweight division.

soapstar, you are right on point. Unfortunate as it may be, boxing is what the heavyweight division is. I also agree that there are too many classifications, too many belts, to many WBAOCIF thing. All of the three letter organizations remind me of a Mony Python sketch. There really needs to be one belt, one banner, one sport. But, with all of the $$ and egos involved, I don't know how that can be done.

Before Muhammad Ali, people dont know how vicious the sport really was. In the 1880s, they did not have round limits. They said, fight until you drop. I have never watched a fighter with the excitement as I did Rocky Marciano after the 1960s.
