Hardest hitter of the past ?
I am curious who you all think was the heaviest hitter in boxing. My vote would have to go to George Foreman. He was not the best overall boxer, he was a bit slow even for a heavyweight. However, when he did catch you, his fist were like rocks and a boxer very seldom got back up.
Who do you think was the heaviest hitter?

It's difficult to come up with a relative measure of punching power across the weight divisions. At the heavyweight division, Foreman is recognised as having a hefty punch and Mike Tyson and Rocky Marciano are also recognised hard hitters.
In the lower weight divisions, John Mugabi, Gerald McLelland and Marvin Hagler packed tremendous punches for lighter fighters.

It didn't take much to starch the "Bomber" ... are you sure it wasn't a sneeze that did it?

RE: Hardest hitter of the past ?
Honestly I think that John L. Sullivan was the greatest puncher ever lived. Most people don't know who he is but he was the first heavyweight champion of the world. He was champion from 1882 to 1892. Though there is no videos of him fighting, I am still sure that he is the hardest punching. Back in the 1880s, to win a boxing match, you had to physically disable your opponent pretty much. People were alot tougher back then. This was one of the toughest brawling eras in boxing. Only two men were EVER able to go more than 6 rounds with Sullivan. That would be Englishman Charlie Mitchell and Jake Kilrain. Sullivan could shatter every single bone in his hand and not feel a thing. If you would like to learn more about John L. Sullivan, go to my website. He is a hall of fame member.
