Tyson's Chin
Was Tyson's chin his weakness? In his hey-day he was wobbled by a few opponents - I remember Bruno shaking him with a big right, and Ruddock. How do you rate Tyson when it comes to soaking up big punches?

RE: Tyson's Chin
No. It was the ladies. It was Don King. It was his inability to discipline himself. He lost EVERYTHING when Cus died. He was never the same. Before the Douglas fight, his chin was irrelevant. You couldn't get that close to him without risking your life. I am really surprised he never killed anybody with that nasty inside uppercut.
I thought he was OK with the punches. It was the taste of his own blood that scared him. Of course, Holyfield's blood must have tasted mush better. He went back for seconds.

RE: Tyson's Chin
yea, Tyson lost his hunger. after obliterating everyone in the division there wasn't a lot to fight for other than the money. although tyson had the physical and boxing ability he wasn't able to maintain the mental alignment to stay at the top. i think tyson had a good chin and could take punches as good as most great heavyweights. douglas had to land a LOT of punches to finally put him on the canvas.
btw he got hungry again in the holyfield fight

Tyson could take a punch, even though he did wobble a few times over his career.
When he first hit the ring he was like a caged animal, although woman, money and Don King ruined his career. He was used and abused, and then hung out to dry when he had served a purpose - where are all of Tyson's so called friends now?

RE: Tyson's Chin
I think Tyson's chin was one of his greatest weaknesses in the ring. Nonetheless, it wasn't much of a weakness.
Like others have said, his problems weren't in the ring as much as out of the ring. Of course, I don't feel that bad for him, because he caused most of his own problems.

RE: Tyson's Chin
It seems like he caused his own problems on purpose. Listening to some of his interviews, its sounds like he believes he is destined to die on the streets or in prison. It is certain that he is a guy who needs structure in his life, and he probably has trouble doing that on his own. In other words, I think he lacks self-discipline.

RE: Tyson's Chin
Personal problems aside, I think Tyson's chin was very solid. He absorbed big punches from Ruddock, Bruno and others that would have surely dropped a lesser opponent.

RE: Tyson's Chin
I should have phrased the opening question a little differently. I meant, if he had a weakness *in the ring*, was it his chin? We all know he had major weaknesses outside the ring, wanting to go 12 rounds with everyone he met. But what was his weakness in the ring as a boxer?
